Spirituality and Healing Cancer

Writer: Dr. Blake SuzelisDr. Blake Suzelis

For the past 15 years, I have spent the majority of my time in clinical mental health and the academic realms of science. Research, logic, and reason guided me for years until I gained enough experience in the field to feel confident enough to trust myself to make decisions that sometimes veered from the “gods” of science. Instead, I allowed intuition to guide me regarding what my client needed in that moment.

Although the mind and thinking brain have supported our evolution out of our animalistic, emotional, survival brain, it hinders the next step, which is living life from the intuitive heart.

Intuition is the ability to know something, regardless of reason and rationality. Most individuals would give credence to a mother’s intuition regarding her children, when she is able to discern between her emotions (emotional brain) and her knowing (intuitive heart). We all have the capacity for intuition; this is not just a gift for “special” people. It is hard to accept due to our egoic nature, but no one is special… However, we are unique and have different roles and responsibilities in this world, but no one is more or less than anyone else. As you reach a higher level of awareness, you will remember that we are all one.

In my research of the mind-body-spirit role in spontaneous cancer remission, 81% of the participants experienced “spiritual healing, awakening, or enlightenment” on the journey to healing their body. Further, two of the key spiritual milestones the participants experienced included oneness within and oneness with everything. Science and spirituality are working toward the same goal of healing the body, but in different ways: science is dictated by the mind and spirituality is driven by the intuitive heart, which is connected to everything, through quantum entanglement.

Spirituality is experienced and felt in the body. Science and religion are mental. You don’t have to feel something in science or religion; you get to choose to believe regardless of how you feel. Often, we use science or religion to control the body through the mind and rationality. The mind was never meant to be the leader of your life; it was only meant to understand the experiences you have in the body i.e. spirituality or your connection to everything.

Lastly, religion is often based on doing, whereas spirituality is being. Religious doing is guided by right and wrong, good and bad i.e. I have to do this or that to be a “good” person. If I don’t, I am a bad person. Doing something loving doesn’t necessarily mean you feel love inside when you do it. Spirituality focuses on your beingness: becoming a loving person so you can bring love into every situation. Therefore, through spirituality, being and feeling love inside, allows you to express love through your actions.

In sum, when we evolve out of our survival brain, surrender our minds control, and take the journey into the intuitive heart, we experience love, trust, freedom, connection, and healing. Are you ready to experience your Vital Evolution?
